SUMMARY:Chapter Meeting - Zero Waste Washington and screening/Q&A for Voice Above Water
DESCRIPTION:Back by popular demand! Zero Waste WA has been one of our strongest partners in our fight against plastic pollution here in Washington. This month\, Heather Trim will be introducing us to an EPA litter survey assessment known as the Escaped Trash Assessment Protocol (ETAP). Using a national protocol will allow us to use these data to advocate for robust policies aimed at reducing single-use plastics. We will learn how to conduct an ETAP survey as well as why this coordinated data collection effort is so important. Then on International Coastal Cleanup Day (September 11th)\, we’ll conduct our own litter survey at Twin Harbors! \n \n  \nAfter the presentation\, we’ll be showing the documentary Voice Above Water\, a 12 minute film featuring Wayan Nyo\, a 90 year old fisherman in Indonesia. Wayan has devoted the past 21 years of his life to collecting plastic from the ocean using his small fishing boat and net. He hopes that he will one day be able to catch fish again. \n\nAfterwards we’ll have a short Q&A with the documentary filmmakers! \n\n\nSo join us Thursday\, August 26th\, starting at 7:00 pm via Zoom.
