Yellow Ropes Roundup – Dash for Trash!
We'll be hosting another small group yellow ropes roundup from 10 - 1 as part of Ocean Shore's annual Dash for Trash event. We've identified 4 starting locations and are limiting groups to 5 (of course, as always, please keep 6ft or more apart and wear a mask - gloves are good to have, too!) March 22 is World Water Day. Come celebrate clean water with us by picking up cigarette butts in downtown Olympia on Sunday, March 21 from noon to 1:30 p.m. Meet us on the steps of City Hall where you and members of your household can independently continue to help support clean oceans by picking up cigarette butts (and other litter). Join Surfrider Cascadia activists as we virtually screen four short films on March 25 from 6-8:00 p.m. The four short films, Decision, The Endless Wave, The Ocean Between Us, and Lifeblood are all related to surfing, climate change, ocean protection, and sustainability. Our March chapter meeting will feature Heather Trimm, Executive Director of Zero Waste Washington. Heather will tell us about zero waste bills in the state legislature that help eliminate waste-driven pollution and will update us on the bring your own container law that will go into effect in 2023. Beachcomber’s Clean Up & Float Find
Join us for a "solo" Westport to Tokeland Beachcombers Clean Up & Float Find! Pick a beach access starting point between Westport and Tokeland and Dash for Trash while you search for Beach Floats along the shore! Once you are finished, drop your trash and yellow ropes at the Westport Maritime Museum between 10:00-1:00pm, for us to sort and count. Join us for another Downtown Butt Pickup! In celebration of Earth Day, we'll be hosting a short evening cleanup in downtown Olympia - we'll meet at the steps of City Hall at 5:30 pm, where we'll pass out buckets and pickers (please BYO reusable gloves if you can!) Then we'll spend an hour cleanup up cigarette butts, which are the number one most littered item on Earth (and they're made of plastic. Oh, and full of toxins). Hope to see…
